The main IELTS requirement is 6.5 with no subtest score below 6.0. You should have a Bachelor degree (equivalent to a 4 year Australian BA).

The options at QUT are even more flexible than this. The Masters program is designed so that you can either opt to specialise with a course major, or build your Master of IT without majoring in any one area. Students who don’t choose a major can create a Masters degree that gives them a wider range of studies from all of the postgraduate IT units available. User Experience is a course unit focusing on understanding users, on how they experience technology, and on how this impacts the theory and practice of design in digital environments. On this course, your own experience as an enthusiastic user will help by enabling you to evaluate different technologies from your own point of view. But you’ll also deal with other users, engaging them with and without technology. One goal will be to build up a sense of how different methods may allow you to measure their experience of digital environments more effectively, leading to better digital design.

Software Development is a study unit to build your understanding of how software development depends on object technologies and programming techniques, as well as an array of code libraries that are developed by third party designers but which then become very widely used in the industry. This unit starts by recognising that today’s software designers must be competent in such areas as Integrated Development Environments, unit testing frameworks, automated and continuous build tools and versioning systems – and the unit aims to give you these skills.

Advanced Game Design allows the student wishing for a career in the Gaming industry to raise their level of theory and practical ability. One of the key goals is training students to work successfully at the cutting edge of new Gaming design. Advanced Game Design should teach you to identify problems, propose solutions and implement the changes, giving you a comprehensive understanding of the design process. This will include how to plan a task within a game, and how to create a reward for successful completion by the player. You’ll have sufficient skills to design an entire game level. Students must consider the characters that will appear in the game – and how their actions and speech provide feedback to the user, helping them see what actions they should take for the game to progress.

What do you need to enter this program?

The main IELTS requirement is 6.5 with no subtest score below 6.0.

But if you have a lower IELTS score then you may still be able to start your Masters! That’s because with an overall score of 6.0 and subtest scores above 5.0, you could be accepted onto the program by making some extra language study (known as ‘communication units’) part of your Masters degree. You will complete this study – as elective course units – at the QUT International College in your first semester.
