The University of Tasmania (UTAS) is an international university working out of Tasmania.  The University was founded by an Act of the Tasmanian Parliament on 1 January 1890, and as the fourth oldest university in Australia we are an original ‘sandstone’ university.

The University of Tasmania (UTAS) was established in 1890, making it the fourth-oldest university in Australia – a true ‘sandstone’ university. Our sense of tradition also carries through into the value that the staff place on the educational experience for their students.

Students at UTAS discover that Tasmania is a gateway to the world. Through our international student exchange program, opportunities for fieldwork and practical internships, and interaction with the international research activity of many of our teaching staff, you can become part of a global community. UTAS has a population of over 20,000 students, drawn from more than 70 countries around the world.

Students at UTAS come from a range of backgrounds, with more than 40% starting their degree as a mature age student. Many programs are available on a part time basis, some with flexible or online delivery. Dependent on your course of study, you can choose one of three vibrant campuses throughout Tasmania: Sandy Bay in Hobart, Newnham in Launceston or Cradle Coast in Burnie.

Scholarships & support 獎學金

UTAS offers a very generous scholarship program – approximately 1200 individual scholarships, worth a total of over $7 million per annum – as well as a range of support services for its students, including counselling, careers advice, disability services and enabling programs.
